About me

Integrative therapy is a flexible, client-centered approach to mental health that combines elements from different therapeutic styles to suit your unique needs. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, integrative therapy draws on evidence-based techniques from various cognitive and psychodynamic modalities and mindfulness-based practices. This tailored method allows us to work together in a way that respects your individual experiences, goals, and pace—creating space for meaningful, lasting change.

What is Integrative Therapy?

Integrative Therapy is a holistic approach that blends different therapeutic modalities to address the unique needs of each individual. My practice is deeply inspired by Bessel van der Kolk and his groundbreaking book, The Body Keeps the Score, emphasising the connection between mind and body in healing trauma.

Understanding the Mind-Body Connection

My approach to therapy includes educating individuals about neurobiology and the nervous system, helping them understand how their bodies and minds work together. We use a bottom-up approach, which focuses on body-based interventions before engaging in cognitive processing. This method is especially effective for trauma recovery, as it helps regulate the nervous system, build resilience, and create long-term emotional stability. Learning how the nervous system works in your favour can empower you to regain control over emotional responses and improve overall well-being.

Therapeutic Techniques I Use

While integrative therapies can offer valuable support for health and well-being, they should be used alongside—not in place of—conventional medical care. It’s important to inform your doctor if you’re using therapies, and to continue following any prescribed treatment plans. Research suggests that integrative approaches may also help with symptoms including the following interventions:

Psychotherapy

Talk therapy to explore emotions, behaviours, and past experiences.

Hypnotherapy

A guided relaxation technique to access the subconscious mind for healing.

Breathwork

Controlled breathing exercises to regulate emotions and reduce stress.

Somatic Therapy

Body-centred therapy addressing trauma stored in the body.

Stress Management

Strategies to cope with daily stress and anxiety.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Tapping technique to release emotional blocks.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Techniques to change negative thought patterns and behaviours.

Coaching

Goal-oriented support to empower personal growth and transformation.

I contacted Emma in August 2024 at a time where I was feeling particularly lost and didn't know how to cope or where to turn. I have tried conventional talking therapy in the past and felt like I needed a different approach this time. From the very first time I met Emma she has been incredibly caring, supportive and informative and has taught me many different coping techniques when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I see Emma regularly and always look forward to my sessions knowing the treatment she provides will make me feel more emotionally regulated and 'unblocked' for a good while afterwards.
